1. While at your pediatrician’s office, a nurse asks you to get your child off the roof, and you didn’t know your child had gone outside. 2. You spend more time trying to find your child’s homework, than it takes to finish it. 3. The school has your child call home everyday, asking you to bring gym shoes, because your child has forgotten them so many times. 4. Your child gets a zero on an exam, for talking to others before the exams are collected. 5. Your child always has the last word. 6. If allowed to play with legos while listening to a story, your child can recant the details perfectly. 7. You’re afraid to walk on your child’s bedroom floor because... more

adderall We’ve been having quite a bit of difficulty with our nine year old daughter this school year. She’s in fourth grade and apparently the school work load and homework load really begin to increase in this grade. She can’t seem to get her work done at school even though her teacher has been keeping her in during recess to give her a chance to complete her unfinished work. At conferences this month her teacher reported to me that my daughter manages to find other things to do, like organizing her desk during this recess study period. She... more

Laneymack Living with ADHD can be a constant battle. My 14 year old son is very intelligent and he has ADHD but he won’t take any medication to help him control his symptoms because he doesn’t like the side effects. He is in his second semester at the local community college and currently has a 3.5 GPA there. Recently he was diligently trying to get his grade to an “A” in his Anatomy class although with a “B” he had the 6th highest grade in the class of 42 students.

Unfortunately he just can’t control his mouth, he talks constantly. So after... more

Limit Sugar Intake with ADHD?

Will limiting my ADHD child’s sugar intake make a difference on my child’s attention span, ability to stay focused, or hyper activity? According to medical science, it does not. However, the articles I found, and quoted from below, go on to say that many parents disagree with the findings of medical science.

I personally have tried long-term, sugar intake, limiting for two of my ADD children thinking it would make a difference. For example, if I made cookies I would only give them each one or... more

ADHD - Don’t Baby-sit

Our fourteen year old son asked if he could take our one year old granddaughter outside to play. “That would be wonderful,” I told him as I was trying to cook supper and she really wanted to go outside. Happily they went out to swing and enjoy the mild spring weather.

About fifteen minutes later my adult daughter came walking in the door, unexpectedly as I thought I was going to take my granddaughter home after our visit, carrying her crying daughter. She looked rather upset and asked me why her daughter was outside alone. “Where is Lane?” I asked, “Wasn’t... more

adhdpatch I have to admit that when I think about scientist working diligently to find cures for diseases it really didn’t occur to me that ADD was one of them. However, it makes sense when you realize the number of children affected by ADD who are using medication. According to www.MedicineNet.com

"More complete studies in community samples indicate actual rates to be 4% to 12%, and occurring three times more often in boys than... more

adhdpatch A reader asked me about treatment options for ADHD. Since there is so much information available and so many options for treating ADHD I decided to divide the information up into prescription and nonprescription alternatives.

Prescription drug therapy is an important component of treating ADHD and there are many different medicines that can be used to help control symptoms. The medicines typically used are available in immediate-release, intermediate-acting and timed-released options. You may need to try several forms over a... more

One of my readers asked for some treatment possibilities for ADHD so I decided to break them up into natural remedies that don’t require prescriptions and prescription treatments. I provided links with each so you can study each one to determine if you’d like to try any of them. If you’ve ever searched on the internet for ADHD the information available is overwhelming. The claims and information listed with each “remedy” is pasted directly from the web site cited.

medmjI live under a rock down here on the farm and I guess I’m incredibly sheltered from what goes on in the rest of the world. So I’m grateful to one of my esteemed readers for bringing me up to date on treatments for ADHD. It seems that if you live in the state of sunny California you can treat your ADHD with “medical marijuana.”

Those of us with too skinny ADHD children that have tried all the “favorite” treatments like Ritalin, Concerta, and Adderal know that they decrease appetite. Apparently medical marijuana causes the user to have the... more
