A Shameless Plug for ATN Conference

It’s only 6 weeks until ATN’s 2007 Parenting Traumatized Children Conference is underway. (That thought strikes terror in my heart, because I know how much more work we have left.) But, you too, are running out of time if you’re planning on joining us and you want to save $50. Early bird pricing ends today!

If I haven’t told you enough about the conference to convince you that it is the hottest summer destination, then I’ve been doing a poor job as a self-promoting Blogger.

The conference is August 2-4 at The Elms Resort in Excelsior Springs, MO, a small town just outside of Kansas City (close to the airport). This historic resort and spa is the perfect setting for a relaxing get-away for parents and professionals who are raising and healing traumatized children.

Our conference consists of 3 dynamic keynote presentations and 30 workshop session to choose from. Some of the topics include:

• the role of shame in attachment
• sensory integration and attachment
• sibling relationships
• neurodevelopmental approaches
• biomedical interventions
• “parenting from the trenches”
• Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
• Nutritional supplements
• Neurofeedback
• Disruption
• Nurturing your traumatized child

But one of the biggest benefits of the conference is the chance to spend three days with people who “get it”…all are parenting or work with traumatized children. Here’s what some of last year’s parents said:

“The conference brought a world of understanding. People who truly understood, who were living my life and those who had much more experience as parents and/with a variety of professionals. I came home with a plethora of new ideas, insights & techniques. My arsenal was full of things to try. I stopped feeling like such a failure as a parent.”

“I never thought a conference could be so life-changing, but it was.”

“Everyone should try to make it to this conference. I've been to a lot of conferences but none like this one. It's so much about the parents’ needs.”

In addition there will be exhibits and a bookstore all full of resources for families of traumatized children.

And here’s another benefit. We know that many parents struggle to find the right therapeutic help for their children. Therapists versed in trauma and attachment are not always easy to find. So this year, several of the professionals who will be presenting at our conference will be available to schedule individual consultations while you’re there. If you’ve been searching for the right therapist for your child/family, you might find him/her at the conference.
