Ten is a fun age for raising kids, even special kids. And while LuLu is not 10-years-old in much of her behaviors or social interactions, she is definitely turning into a "kid" and not so much of a "baby".
Her birthday gifts, in addition to the coveted chimpanzee, were varied. She got lots of books and educational materials from dear ol' Mom & Dad (nothing like picking out things for Ladybug Elementary.) While she was very interested in them all, it wasn't long until she declared that she was disappointed in the presents she'd received.
LuLu is nothing, if not direct.
But it was the variety of gift she chose for herself that I find so fascinating. After much begging, I bought LuLu a set of the kid, press-on, acrylic nails. She was THRILLED (although, here we are a day later and she's already removed them.)
Today, she had a Target gift card to spend, and after many trips up and down the toy aisles, she insisted that we visit the Halloween department, where she spent the entire gift card on a creepy, creeping hand - a fake hand that actually walks across the floor.
She had the good fortune of having an opportunity to show KayKay's youth group her new purchase. They, of course, thought it was ultra-cool and suggested to her many ways she scare people, including making the youth director scream!
And there you have it...my 10-year-old who wears fake nails and lip gloss and a Sunday dress to go frog hunting, and sets up creeping hands to scare her big sister's friends, all the while playing with her dolls, and begging us to help her do science experiments.
She is a fascinating one, for sure!
