ATN Conference: I Forgot One of the Best Parts

When I was shamelessly plugging the ATN Parenting Traumatized Children conference last week, I forgot to tell you about one of the best additions: the Pre-Conference Institute!

On Wednesday, August 1, ATN is offering three day-long seminars that will be wonderful opportunities to explore topics in-depth. The one I’m personally excited about is Biomedical Interventions for Traumatized Children, and here’s why:

In this 6-hour session, Dr. Phillip DeMio, Dawn Rossi and Lisa Porter will discuss the theory behind biomedical interventions that are proving successful for children from traumatized backgrounds. Dr. DeMio is a DAN! (Defeat Autism Now!) doctor.

I’ve mentioned Dawn here before, and along with Lisa, they are researchers extraordinaire into the world of supplements, diets and other interventions designed to change our children’s brain chemistry. They have made remarkable progress with their own internationally adopted children. But even more exciting is that they press on doing research and advocating to benefit others. They are compiling specific data about adopted children who have undergone various biomedical testing, looking for patterns and similarities. I’m excited because this is going to be important information that most parents have never heard before. And it has the radical potential to change a child’s neurochemistry and reduce/eliminate symptoms.

The information they are going to present, and the data they have been working so hard to gather, has never before been publicly shared. These parents of neurologically impaired children are truly making a difference for the entire community of traumatized and attachment-disordered children.

But then…that’s nothing new really. I find time and again that adoptive and foster parents of special needs children are some of the bravest, most determined, tenacious, and most tireless souls on the planet. Guess once you learn how to be a Mama Bear then you are a Mama Bear to all the special needs cubs and want to do what you can to make the road easier for those coming after you.

I digressed. The point is, the Biomedical Interventions for Traumatized Children seminar is a “must see”! To find out more or register, go to ATN’s website under Conference.
