I picked up LuLu last night, and so far so good. She was so happy to be going home last night that she quickly changed her mind about wanting to eat out (her favorite activity) and opted for going straight home. Once home, she quickly became sleepy and easily went to bed.
Up at the crack of dawn this morning (before 6:30) she was eager to eat and start her school day. Today was LuLu’s first day at Georgia Virtual Academy. It was a bit stressful trying to figure out the on-line planning and attendance system, but overall it was a great day. She did two math assignments – testing out of the first one, and two spelling assignment, along with a long American History assignment. We took a nice walk and she re-did our bimonthly family calendar, complete with artwork. Then we headed over to Walmart to pick up various notebooks and organization tools to keep her many subject assignments organized.
Probably the most memorable thing about the day was that there wasn’t a single negative outburst from LuLu all day. There was a bit of mild frustration over some of the school work, but never did it escalate into needing to take a break. Her new med change has left her a bit sleepy, but even when she requested to take a break, she never actually napped and quickly came back for more school.
While she would still like to argue with me about the old stand-bys (Why can’t I sleep in the basement? Why can’t I eat cheese?) She dropped the argument when I told her that she needed to “drop it”. Once I made her spit out some candy she'd helped herself to (not only without asking, but it was milk chocolate...a no-no). This has always been like "asking for a rage" in the past. But she quickly complied -- it was quite a surprise! I do believe that today is first time in many moons that she’s been able to move off of an obsessive thought.
So, overall, I’m hesitantly saying that she’s better (perhaps we should call it cautious optimism).I sure am glad to have her home! But I’m also back to getting even less done than before. Learning a new school system is taking some time, although I’m sure that this virtual school curriculum is going to be awesome. Already my talented little speller has vowed to accelerate her spelling lessons, because she’s breezing through the lists. This has been a nice self-confidence builder.
