If You Had a 4-Day Break, What Would You Do?

Super Dad loaded up the car early yesterday morning and took LuLu to Florida for four days. (Yes, this is my REAL birthday present.) The two of them have never traveled solo before, so this is a really BIG deal.

After my initial Snoopy dance around the house, I settled into the quiet surroundings to work hot and heavy on blogging, ATN conference and trying to figure out what to do about the quagmire our due process tribulations have become.

I did take an afternoon break to go to the movies with Kay. We saw Knocked Up; it was not as funny as the reviews had made it sound. And we had to go to the theatre we usually don’t go to, because that was the only place it was showing as a matinee…more expensive and staler popcorn…sigh.

Then Kay went off to Orchestra Camp, and I went off to a church meeting. And for whatever reason…because with only 4 days, time’s a-wastin’, I stayed up half the night reorganizing our special education files (and I’m still not done.)

Today, I spent the entire day researching and compiling a variety of things related to our court case. What was only going to take a couple hours literally took all day. So much so that I didn’t get photographs developed to go scrapbooking tonight. At first I was panicky and trying to figure out how to get them developed before the store closed, get these blogs written and get over to scrapbooking crop, when it dawned on me…I was stressing myself out over a hobby?

So, the house is empty again (Kay is hanging out with a girlfriend), and I’m here alone. It is a perfect solitude. I may crack open my scrapbook and finish the photos I have here, or I may not. One thing I do know for sure is that I have the chocolate brownies that I bought for the crop all to myself…and I’m enjoying myself.

Wow! Four days! Superdad must be a really great guy! And while I love scrapbooking, I think I'd also be happy to have the brownies to myself... I had a question about Knocked Up. Many parents on FASlink have suggested boycotting that movie because the trailer shows a pregnant woman with a glass of wine in front of her, and this kind of thing can send the message that it is ok to drink early in pregnancy, a message that unfortunately many doctors actually still give their patients, when recent research shows that there is NO safe time and NO safe amount to drink when pregnant. My question is, did the movie actually show the woman drinking, or anything else beyond the wine in front of her? Any messages one way or the other about drinking in pregnancy? I was curious (and don't have the time or desire to see it myself). Thanks!

I do remember that scene, but can't remember if it was a wine glass or a long-stemmed water glass. I do remember the liquid in the glass was a light color, so my brain dismissed it as not being wine, like the others were drinking.

But then, I am not nearly as in tune to that stuff as I should be.

You're right...no alcohol for pregnant women should be common knowledge everywhere! (and just illegal as driving while intoxicated, IMHO.)
