Obsessions are a wonderful thing. Or at least they are very interesting. LuLu has been “Mufasa” for quite some time now, obsessed on everything Lion King. This particular obsession lasted a long time (6+ months). Long enough that LuLu was lobbying very hard to have her actual birth certificate changed to reflect Mufasa as her “real” name.

But just as quickly as it came, this obsession was overridden by Mighty Joe Young. The movie was on TV a couple of weeks ago and she was hooked. Since then we’ve rented the movie twice, and will probably own it in the coming days.

For a few days, the obsessions co-existed. So, while “Mufasa Joe” was the preferred name for a few days...it has changed to “Joe”. This is definitely a welcomed change for LuLu’s parents, as I have quickly tired of her introducing herself in crowds as Mufasa, only to have them ask what nationality that it. Or to her insistence that her medical records all say “Mufasa”. I’m always surprised by the number of adults who will follow an insistent child’s lead and do exactly what they say, with no regard to their own common sense that it was not only bizarre, but not a good idea to put the name Mufasa on her medical record.

And the obsession change was not a moment too soon for LuLu’s wardrobe.

This morning, LuLu came downstairs in her t-shirt and undies, wiping the sleep from her eyes. As she bent over to retrieve a toy, I noticed a hole in her underwear.

“She’s got quite a hole in those undies,” I commented to Super Dad, who didn’t even look up from his newspaper when he replied:

“Yes, she cut that hole in her undies while we were in Florida. It’s for her Mufasa tail.”

And being ever the optimist, he followed that with:

“Well thank goodness for her underwear that Mighty Joe Young doesn’t have a tail.”

And life (with Joe) goes on....
