martina2003Super Dad absolutely loves Martina McBride’s voice; well he also loves her eyes. Before fire works, he was switching back and forth between two of her live performances with TIVO trying to decide which one he liked better. Lyn, our teenage daughter diagnosed with FAS, was sitting on the couch beside him, listening to Martina sing and also listening to Super Dad praising her vocal abilities.

It is rather unusual to hear him praise singing or instrument playing because he frequently complains about what he hears on the radio or TV. He seems to have very sensitive hearing and immediately recognizes if someone is slightly off key or out of range.

Lyn, always one to glow under Super Dad’s praise or approval, tries to get his attention by making some small talk about Martina. I mentioned the golden dress she was wearing in one video that had a long train blowing behind her; it sort of made her seem angelic as it blew behind her head. Super Dad began talking about the white pant suit she was wearing in the other video.

Suddenly, Lyn blurts out, “Dad, she should make a CD.”
Super Dad, somewhat confused responds with, “What did you say?”
Lyn has no problem repeating her brilliant idea, “She should really make a CD, because she’s such a good singer.”
“Well, Lyn, she is on TV,” Super Dad responds, slightly amused.
“Yes, she is, but really she should make a CD too,” she insist.
Super Dad must break the new to Lyn, “Uh, she has already sold millions of CDs.”
“She has!” Lyn is quite surprised.
“Yes, she has been making CDs since before you were born,” he decides to elaborate.
“Are you kidding me?” She seems a bit put off, that someone thought it was a good idea before her.
Super Dad feels the need to assure her that it is true, “No, I’m not kidding you.”
“Huh,” she walks away, stunned by this new knowledge.
