Today was a lost day. It started around 8 pm last night, when we were returning home from another fast-moving weekend and hoping to tie up some loose ends before the new week started.
We had been to dinner with Kay’s youth group and all was fine. LuLu went to the bathroom and then cried out: “Hey, Mom, you gotta see this!”
What I found was such an overwhelming amount of blood and stool that it was difficult to appear calm. (Sorry to be so graphic, but it was down right scary). LuLu didn’t appear distraught, so I just played it cool, helped her clean up and called the doctor.
We have an awesome DAN! (Defeat Autism Now!) doctor…one who answers his cell phone on a Sunday night!! He was concerned by the severity of this so sent us off to the emergency room.
Well, the only place more crowded than the interstate during rush hour in Atlanta is the emergency room on a weekend night. We checked in at 9 pm, left at 2:15 am. They did basic blood counts and found NOTHING. Told us to go to pediatrician this morning.

So, as soon as the pediatrician’s office opened at 9 am (and yes, it took gallons of coffee to operate on just over 5 hours of sleep), we scheduled an appointment. The appointment took about two hours to get the results from the ER, figure out what to do next, make referrals, draw more blood, etc.
And still we know nothing. Overall LuLu felt good today. She finally got to eat around 1:30 pm. And ate well again tonight – as bland of meals as I could insist upon. We both napped this afternoon. She tried to go with me to walk the dog this evening, but we cut the walk short because she kept telling me she was so tired.
There were no arguments at bedtime, she willingly fell into bed. I am concerned about the glossy “sick” look in her eyes and a general puffiness under them. I had convinced myself it was signs of being tired. But every little sign is cause for worry. Just what is going on?
So, we lost our Monday. We spent much of the day not knowing what time it was, what we needed to do next, etc. And we have no answers for what’s going on in LuLu's body. Could be minor…or could be not so minor. Lab results and a visit to the pediatric GI doctor will hopefully shed some light.
Looks like it may be a Lost Week.
And while I was lost in all this...our attorney filed the federal complaint against the school district and the State of Georgia. Wow! What a Monday! (And so glad I have such a team of folks working on our behalf!)
One thing for sure:
