Sandra Lundberg and Nancy Thomas
Dr. Sandra Lundberg and Nancy Thomas offer advice and encouragement to adoptive parents who face the difficult challenge of raising children with Reactive Attachment Disorder.
When Love Isn't Enough
Wednesday, January 24, 2007 Young children who fail to form a proper attachment with their parents -- or suffer trauma, abuse or neglect -- may behave in ways that could tear a family apart. Reactive Attachment Disorder experts Sandra Lundberg and Nancy Thomas share real life examples to help us better understand RAD, explain why adopted children are at greater risk and describe typical symptoms, causes and treatments.
"These children are wounded. They had their hearts broken when they were little, and because of that wound, they react in anger and lash out at those who love them the most." -- Nancy Thomas
It’s nice to hear attachment disorder being addressed in the mainstream Christian community. It’s good that listeners who may have felt alienated because of these challenges are being introduced to resources.
Nancy Thomas sometimes draws criticism in the attachment community – but one thing is for sure – she’s reaching out to adoptive families around the world in a big way. And that’s a good thing!
