Voice of Truth

On days when my life is overwhelming (like everyday) - music is a huge help for me. One of my favorites these days is the cover CD from a group called Casting Crowns (who won a grammy on Tues night for their latest album, Lifesong). It's Christian rock, but it's even more than that. One of the songs that I find so inspirational and descriptive of where I am and where LuLu is, is Voice of Truth.

In my mind the first verse is written for a child with a traumatic past or attachment disorder. A broken-hearted child who wishes, but can't find the strength within himself, to take a leap of faith to try to love again. The second verse seems to be more for the parents (and kids) and all the giants we have to face - especially the giant that is our child's disability.

Last summer I had the pleasure of seeing Casting Crowns perform live. The lead singer, Mark Hall introduced this song with a story about why he wrote it. Mark has ADHD. His disorder was undiagnosed for most of his childhood and the song was inspired by his struggles. Wow - my heart lept! No wonder the song resonated with me and with my special kid! Check out Mark Hall and Casting Crowns at www.castingcrowns.com.

We often crank the CD player and sing at the top of our lungs with LuLu singing the loudest on the line "Do not be afraid!" I have printed the specific words from the lyrics that touch us most below:

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of faith it takes to climb out of this boat I'm in
Onto the crashing waves

To step out of my comfort zone
Into the realm of the unknown where Jesus is
And He's holding out His hand

But the waves are calling out my name and they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
Time and time again, "Boy you'll never win!"
"You'll never win!"

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
The voice of truth says, "Do not be afraid!"
And the voice of truth says, "This is for My glory!"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth.

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant
With just a sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors
Shaking in their armor
Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand

But the giant's calling out my name and he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
Time and time again, "Boy you'll never win!"
"You'll never win!"

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
The voice of truth says, "Do not be afraid!"
And the voice of truth says, "This is for My glory!"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth.
