The daughter of Burt Bacharach and Angie Dickinson committed suicide. The story states Nikki Bacharach had Asperger’s Syndrome.
“She quietly and peacefully committed suicide to escape the ravages to her brain brought on by Asperger’s,” the statement said. Full story
I never thought of Aspergers ravaging the brain. I have been told by Jay’s psychologist that many people with high-functioning autism have depression and are at high-risk for suicide.
To be incredibly open about it -- Jay already has suicide ideation. He’s had it to the point it’s come across to his teachers, school counselor and other folks. It's even been noted in his IEP.
It’s something we’re very aware of and he and us have worked hard to get him into a better emotional space. Thankfully, with medication and support he’s doing much better this year.
However, this story scares the hell out of me.
My heart goes out to Nikki Bacharach and her parents. May her family and friends find comfort and peace.
“She (Nikki) loved kitties, and earthquakes, glacial calving, meteor showers, science, blue skies and sunsets, and Tahiti,” the statement said.
